What's New in MotiveWave 1.1
(Released July 11, 2011)
Below is information on the major features and enhancements included in MotiveWave's version 1.1 (since the last major release of version 1.0). Please visit the MotiveWave download page for full Release Notes on each release including minor releases and to download the latest version of MotiveWave.
- FOREX.com Integration - FOREX.com direct integration and Auto EX is now supported as a broker.
- PFGBEST Integration - PFGBEST is now supported as a broker.
- eSignal Integration - eSignal is now supported as a Data Provider. You will see this in the list of available services when you create a new workspace.
- Deutsche Bank FX (dbFX) Integration - You can now use MotiveWave with Deutsche Bank FX (dbFX). You will need to create a new workspace and choose this option as your broker.
- Google Data Fix - Version 1.0 (and prior releases) had problems with pulling more than 100 symbols. This update fixes these issues.
- Replay Mode - This feature enabled you to replay bars using tick data and/or minute data, set a delay between ticks/bars, and has a ‘play all’ feature. This is especially useful for debugging strategies. To access this feature: View -> Replay Mode (only available in Professional Edition and above, and in the Advanced Charts Module).
- Trading Hours - You can now assign 'Trading Hours' to symbols to specify when they trade. This is useful for projecting into the future as the time axis will remove future time that is not within trading hours of the symbol. To adjust the trading hours, edit the instrument (right click on the instrument, choose Edit Instrument). Will also filter bars that are not included with the trading hours (You may need to clear local data for this to take effect).
- Data Export - Bar and Tick data can now be exported from MotiveWave. From the File Menu choose Export Data. CSV and Ninja Trader formats are currently supported.
- Renko Bars - (Trade Edition and Higher). Renko bars are now supported. To activate choose 'Renko' from the bar size drop down (tool bar) or right click on the graph and choose Renko -> (Range Interval). When displaying Renko bars, the latest (unfinished) bar is plotted along with the Range marker.
- Elliott Wave Auto Wave Labeling - MotiveWave will now automatically choose wave points when you decompose a higher degree wave. It accomplishes this by generating all of the wave possibilities and then ranking them by 'Wave Score' (using known guidelines of wave formation). The best ranking wave is automatically plotted. We have also added two new decompose options:
- Decompose 1 Level - This will decompose the wave into waves of 1 degree lower. Wave patterns are automatically chosen based on Elliott Wave rules and wave score.
- Decompose 2 Levels - This will decompose the wave into 2 degrees lower.
- Elliott Wave Auto Wave Label Enhancements:
- Auto Select for EW Tools - You can now click and drag to select an area using the Elliott Wave Tools (Impulse Tool, Corrective Tool and Triangle Tool). MotiveWave will attempt to fit an appropriate wave within the selected area. Hold down on the control key (Ctrl) to have it automatically decompose the wave 2 levels down.
- Auto Wave Tool - This new tool allows you to select an area on a chart and automatically attempt to plot an Elliott Wave (Impulse, Diagonal, Correction or Triangle). MotiveWave will attempt to find the best matching fit for the selected area. Hold down on the control key (Ctrl) to automatically have the wave decomposed up to 2 levels down.
- Incomplete (future) Waves - Incomplete waves are now supported. To use this feature with the Auto Wave tools, simply drag the zoom area beyond the latest bar. MotiveWave will attempt to match any wave or partial wave over the selected area and choose the best match.
- Decompose Incomplete (future) Waves - The decompose feature will work for incomplete waves.

- Moon Phase Study - This new study displays moon phases on the price graph. To access: Study -> Astrological -> Moon Phases

To enable/disable this feature click on the group/ungroup button on the top right hand corner of the study. The default can be configured from the Preferences Dialog under Chart -> Settings (Group Studies Checkbox).
- Hide Study Labels - This enhancement allows you to hide the study labels on a chart. Right click - Preferences -> Show Study Labels.
- Study Visibility - This enhancement allows you to set the visibility for studies (in the same way as components). Right click on a study and select the Visibility submenu.
- Open/Prev Close Indicators - You can now display the open price and prev close as an indicator on the Price Graph. To configure: Preferences -> Chart -> Show Open Indicator/Show Close Indicator
- Range Bars Enhancements - Numerous enhancements/fixes have been added to the range bars in this update:
- FOREX.com - Both of these providers now support Range Bars.
- Range Bars Using Minute Bars - Range bars may now be calculated using minute bars instead of tick data (on by default). To disable this feature (and use raw tick data, see Preferences -> Chart -> Settings). This now allows you to use Range bars in all data services including: TD Ameritrade, Interactive Brokers, Google/Yahoo
- Range Outline - The most recent range bar will now display the potential range for bar. This range will dynamically change as the range grows. This feature can be disabled from the Preferences Dialog under Chart -> Settings (Show Range Outline checkbox).
- Range Interval Menu - Range intervals are now available from the chart context menu (right click on the chart).
- Range bars now support the ability to not allow 'gaps' in the bars. By default this feature is on. It can be disabled in Preferences -> Tick Data
- Auto Save Feature - This feature (if enabled) will automatically save all analysis files on the given interval that you specify. To configure this feature, click on Configure -> Preferences from the console menu bar. From the General tab, check the 'Auto Save Enabled' check box and select the save interval (in seconds).
- Chart Templates - Chart Templates now react to Linked Charts. If you have 2 or more linked charts, applying a template to one of them will apply the template to all linked charts
- Import Analysis - Improvements have been made to the import analysis dialog to make it easier to choose an instrument/symbol. If the target instrument/symbol is not found, the dialog will try to automatically suggest an appropriate instrument/symbol.
- Instrument Folder Search - You can now type the first few characters of a symbol and the instrument folder will scroll to find closest matching symbol in the list (table view only).
- Chart Spacing - You can now specify chart spacing (bar width and range) from a dialog available from the chart context menu (right click on graph -> Preferences -> Chart Spacing). These settings are saved when you close MotiveWave.
- Tab Linking - Stacked Charts in the Console and Chart Groups may now be linked (on by default). If enabled, when clicking on a chart tab, the active chart in the other stacked charts will be switched to the same tab number. To disable, see Preferences -> General.
- Auto Trail - Stops can now be set to automatically adjust based on the following options. These orders may be placed directly from the price axis or by modifying the order tick of an existing stop order. Please Note: this feature executes on your client machine. If you shut down MotiveWave, the stop order will not be adjusted. Trail settings are persisted on your machine, so the next time you start MotiveWave, the settings will be re-applied if the stop order still exists.
- ATR Stop - This will automatically adjust a stop order based on a multiplier of the Average True Range. Can also be set to only change the stop on the close of a bar. Max pips also added.
- Prev Bar Stop - This will adjust the stop to the high/low of the previous bar (subject to a minimum number of pips). Some adjustments have been made to this auto trail option. The trigger is only activated if the current bar moves lower (for a Buy Stop) or higher (for a Sell Stop). Additionally, the stop will move to the highest high (Buy stop) or the lowest low (Sell stop) for the past X bars.
- OCO Limit/Stop Order - This new order combination places a limit and stop OCO order (depending on broker support).
- Clear Local Data - You can now add this action to the tool bar. Preferences -> Toolbar.
- Tick Data Caching - Tick data is now cached locally to improve loading speed. This works for FOREX.com workspaces.
